This Privacy Policy explains how Golyte LLC (“Golyte”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and shares your personal information when you use the Golyte website, applications, and luggage-storage service (the “Service”). Golyte is the data controller responsible for your personal information.
This Policy forms part of our Terms of Service.
1. Who we are
Golyte is a limited liability company formed in the State of New Mexico, United States, operating a luggage-storage booking service through a network of partner Host locations. For any privacy question, contact us using the details in Section 14.
2. What information we collect
- Account & contact information: your name, email address, phone number, and country of origin.
- Booking information: Host location, dates, number of bags, and your booking and trip history.
- Payment information: when you pay, your card details are collected and processed directly by our third-party payment provider(s). Golyte receives only limited information (such as a payment confirmation and the last digits / card type) and does not store your full card number.
- Technical information: IP address, approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, and usage data collected through cookies and similar technologies (see Section 5).
- Communications: messages you send to our support team, and our replies.
- Claim and incident information: if you report loss or damage, we collect what you send us and what we gather to investigate — descriptions, photographs of items, receipts or proof of value, police reports, and CCTV footage or still images provided by the Host, which may include images of you or other people at the Host’s premises. We use this only to assess and resolve the claim, and to prevent fraud.
We do not seek to collect sensitive personal information and ask that you do not provide it.
3. How we collect information
We collect information directly from you (when you create an account, make a booking, or contact us), automatically (through cookies and analytics when you use the Service), and from third parties — our payment provider (confirming a payment) and our Hosts (confirming drop-off and pick-up, or providing records and footage in connection with a claim).
4. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your account and provide the Service;
- Process bookings and payments, and send confirmation emails;
- Share the necessary booking details with the relevant Host so they can store your bags;
- Provide customer support and respond to your requests;
- Investigate and resolve claims for loss or damage;
- Prevent, detect, and investigate fraud and misuse;
- Comply with our legal, tax, and accounting obligations;
- Improve and personalize the Service; and
- Send you service messages and, where permitted, marketing (see Section 7).
Where required by law, we rely on a lawful basis such as performance of our contract with you, your consent, our legitimate interests, or compliance with a legal obligation.
5. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the site, remember your preferences, measure usage, and support marketing.
Cookies that are strictly necessary to run the site are always active. Where the law requires it, we ask for your consent before setting analytics or marketing cookies, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time. You can also control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect how the Service works.
6. Who we share your information with
We share personal information with:
- Hosts — only what they need to store your bags: your name, booking reference, dates, number of bags, and a contact number so they can reach you about the booking. Hosts do not receive your payment details.
- Payment provider(s) — to process your payment and any refund, and to manage payment disputes.
- Service providers — hosting, analytics, email, and customer-support tools acting on our behalf under contract. We can tell you which providers we currently use if you ask.
- Authorities / law enforcement — where required by law or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
- A buyer or successor — if Golyte is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
We do not sell your personal information.
7. Marketing
We only send marketing where you have opted in or where otherwise permitted by law. You can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link in our emails or by contacting us. Opting out of marketing does not stop service messages about your bookings.
8. International transfers
Golyte operates internationally. Your information may be processed in the United States, in the countries where our Hosts and service providers operate (including in Southeast Asia), and elsewhere. Where we transfer personal data across borders, we take steps to ensure it is protected as required by applicable law.
9. Keeping your information secure
We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information, and we require our service providers to do the same. The Service uses HTTPS, and card payments are handled by PCI-compliant payment providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. How long we keep your information
We keep information only as long as we need it. As a guide:
| Information | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Account details | While your account is open, then up to 12 months |
| Booking and payment records | 7 years, to meet our tax, accounting, and audit obligations |
| Claim and incident records, including any CCTV images | 24 months after the claim is closed, or longer if a dispute is unresolved |
| Support messages | 24 months |
| Marketing preferences | Until you opt out, plus a record of the opt-out |
Where we no longer need information, we delete it or anonymize it.
11. Children
The Service is not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate information;
- Request erasure of your information;
- Object to or restrict certain processing;
- Withdraw consent (including to marketing); and
- Request portability of your information.
To exercise any right, contact us using the details below. We will respond within the time required by applicable law. You may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
13. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post any changes on this page and update the “Last updated” date above. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will tell you.
