Hoang Van Thu Park is the big green space on the airport road in Tan Binh, where the neighbourhood comes out early to jog, play badminton and practise tai chi under the trees before the heat sets in. This spot is about a ten minute walk away, in a quiet residential lane, which is the point: it is ten minutes by taxi from Tan Son Nhat and well away from the traffic of District 1. The streets around Cong Hoa are full of local rice restaurants, coffee shops and noodle stalls that rarely see a tourist, and it is a good place to spend the hours between a morning landing and a room that is not ready, or between checkout and a late flight. Open 24/7. Leave the bags, walk the park while it is cool, eat where the office workers eat, and ride back to the airport when it is time.
