Giao Luu City is one of the big new residential districts on Pham Van Dong, the wide road leading north-west out of Hanoi. It was planned as a town in its own right: close to a hundred hectares of apartment towers and streets for around twelve thousand residents, laid out along the green belt of the Nhue river. Visitors end up here for practical reasons rather than sights, whether that is a short-let apartment, relatives nearby, meetings in the western districts, or a quieter base between the centre and the airport. What an apartment block lacks is a lobby that will mind your suitcase on the last day. This spot covers that, and because it is open all night it suits the awkward hours: drop the bag before a final day in town, ride back in the evening, and collect it whenever your flight or overnight bus is due.
