Pham Ngu Lao is the road that gives Saigon's backpacker quarter its name, running along the edge of September 23rd Park on the western side of District 1. Guesthouses and the ticket desks of the long-distance bus companies fill its side lanes, and many trips through the south start or end on this one street: sleeper buses from Da Lat, Mui Ne and Nha Trang tend to roll in early in the morning, hours before any room is ready, and the evening departures back out leave long after checkout. That gap is what this spot is for. It sits in a lane just off Pham Ngu Lao and is open 9am - 5pm and 7pm - 7am, so a bag can go in at dawn straight off an overnight bus and come out again at midnight for the next one. In between, have breakfast under the trees in the park across the road, walk fifteen minutes east to Ben Thanh Market, and leave the parallel street of bars for the evening.
