Hang Ca, the old fish street, is a short lane just off Hang Duong, the spine of the Old Quarter's main shopping route that runs from Hang Dao up towards Dong Xuan Market. Hang Duong sells clothes, shoes, dried fruit and sweets, and on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings it closes to traffic and becomes part of the weekend night market. That is when a suitcase stops being merely annoying: the crowd moves shoulder to shoulder and the stalls take over the road. Store your bag here, walk the market with your hands free, try the street food on the side lanes, and collect it on your way out. During the day the location is just as useful, central enough to reach most of the quarter on foot, so your final hours after checkout go to the city instead of to guarding luggage in a hotel lobby.
